Abstract:
Pesticides have been used for thousands of years (Click here to learn about the first pesticide ever used). The first GMO was made naturally about 8 thousand years ago when a soil bacteria put itself into some Sweet Potatoes (Click here to read the full article). In 1973, Herbert Boyer, and Stanley Cohen figured out how to copy and paste DNA into plants and animals. The safety of both pesticides and GMOs has been debated for more than 40 years. How come, just recently, are people really noticing what is going on in the agricultural area of the U.S.? Why are people turning against what feeds America? How can we get people to start agreeing with the modern ways of growing and producing food?
Why I Chose This Topic:
I chose this topic because I felt that people didn't know how safe pesticides and GMOs really were, and why they help keep billions of people alive. I chose it because I believe strongly in helping people know the truth, instead of them seeing a nonfactual post by someone with no previous knowledge on that topic.
