BackPack Program
The mission of the BackPack Program is to help alleviate child hunger in Decatur County by providing chronically hungry children with nutritious and easy-to-prepare food at times when other resources are not available, such as weekends and school vacations. The program provides backpacks filled with food that is child friendly, nonperishable, and easily-consumed. The term "chronically hungry" refers to children who, for whatever reason, consistently have little or no access to food at home on the weekends.
This support is intended for chronically hungry children only. School personnel identify chronically hungry children in need of food assistance. With parents permission school staff discreetly place a BackPack in the child's book bag each Friday.
