Meet the DMS band directors!
Mr. Storey
Stan Storey comes to us previously from Avon Community School Corporation where he was the band director at Avon Middle School North. He was the director there for 21 years. His bands achieved Gold ratings and numerous With Distinctions as well. He had the opportunity to have many of his students win seats in the Indiana Jr All-State Band. He was also instrumental in providing outstanding students and musicians that went on to become state and national champions. Mr. Storey was also the middle school band director at Paul Hadley Middle School in Mooresville as well as the assistant high school director. Prior to teaching in Mooresville, Mr. Storey played trumpet and traveled with Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus. He also has performed at the Opryland Hotel for their annual Christmas Show, and freelanced in Nashville, TN. He has performed with Bobby Vinton, Guy Lombardo and the Royal Canadiens, The Royal Tommy Hanneford Circus as well as others. Prior to performing with Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus he earned his Master's Degree in Trumpet Performance from Indiana University, making all of the top bands in all genres. He started his teaching career at Caston Educational Center in Fulton, Indiana. His Bachelor's Degree was obtained from Indiana Wesleyan University with a B.S. in Music Education.
He is married to Kerri, his wife of 24 years. Kerri works at their church and is a realtor for Wall and Associates. Together they have two sons; Elliott a sophomore at Olivet Nazarene University, and Elijah a senior in high school. They currently reside in Danville.
Mr. Pettit
Don Pettit spent 2012-2024 teaching in West Lafayette, Indiana where he lead a 5-12th grade band program of over 300 students. Mr. Pettit's bands have performed in New York, Chicago, Ohio, Florida and China, as well as at the Indiana Music Educator's Association convention. Mr. Pettit has lead both bands and symphony orchestras to the Indiana State School Music Association's state concert finals event several times while at West Lafayette. He is originally from Gary, Indiana where he was born and raised, graduating from Calumet High School. He attended undergraduate school at the University of Evansville and later earned his masters at Purdue University.
Mr. Pettit is married to his wife, Emily, who he has been with since 2004. They have two children, Micah and Mikayla, and two dogs, Gizmo and Zoey. Emily works for Paige's Music as a director services specialist. Mr. Pettit is thrilled to be joining the band team at Decatur!
