What's your WORD for 2020?

60 second message about developing an OWL (One Little Word) for yourself and with your students!

As you prepare to relaunch Reading & Writing workshop after the holidays, keep these tips in mind.

  • Workshop teaching hinges on routines and predictable structures. Increased volume and stamina are the bedrock of a strong workshop classroom.
  • Protecting students' independent work time ⏱ should be our highest priority. Research says kids need to read 90 minutes a day in school!
  • Well-thought out partnerships are critical in workshop classrooms.
  • VOICE & CHOICE are foundational to a high-functioning workshop. If you, as the teacher, are regularly the "picker of the text", workshop isn't working.
Before launching a new WUOS, I highly encourage you to watch the orientation videos. Additionally, I am available to help teams with big-picture planning.
