Join the Battle Team! Read a selection of books in order to become an expert on a book genre (Mystery, Adventure, Humour, Family, Fantasy) and answer as many questions about the books to win points for your team while battling other schools for the title. Teams are by grade: Junior is grades 4-6 and Intermediate is 7-8. Books are chosen and lists created by public librarians. The competition will most likely be held virtually this year. THE Battle of the Books is set for April 18th at 12PM at McLean Branch! Meetings after the March break are every day at lunch in the library to practice our battle skills!

There are TWO types of questions:

Regular Round questions start like this....
In which book did....(answer with book title AND author)
Example: In which book does a student give a presentation on homelessness in their community? (Simon B. Rhymin' by Dwayne Reed)
Lightning Round questions start like this...
In the book (book title is given), .........(quick fact answers are given)
Example: In Simon B. Rhymin by Dwayne Reed, what are the names of Simon’s three older brothers? (Aaron, Da’Shawn, and Markus)
Answers are always presented by ONE leader in the group whose job it is to listen to the answers of the group and present them to the judge. If an answer comes from someone other than the designated leader, they will not accept the answer. There is a time limit of 20 seconds to answer questions, and this also includes guesses if the answer was wrong. Click here for more rules
