Who we are!
The SCC is made up of:
Parents and guardians from the school community
One teacher assigned to the school (elected by teaching staff)
One or more community representatives elected by members of the school council
Our purpose
The SCC has the following purposes:
To support student achievement and well-being
To enhance accountability between school and school community
To seek input from the school community on educational topics and issues
To have an advisory role and provide input to the principal on educational topics and issues
To plan and support activities to increase active participation of parents
What we do!
We achieve our purpose in various ways...
Through Meetings - we receive updates about the school community and provide input to the administration
By Hosting Events - we plan school events and parent education nights to provide opportunities to increase parent involvement
By Fundraising - we raise funds to purchase items that support the students' acheivement and well-being
When parents are involved in their child's education it can make a profound difference on their child's outcomes!
I know...we've heard it many times. But what does "being involved" actually look like? Does it mean I have to join the SCC? Don't worry, parent involvement can take many forms. Absolutely, parents can join the School Community Council (SCC), however if that's not a good fit for you right now, there are other ways to be involved.
It can be as simple as being very mindful of checking in with your child each day after school
It can be making yourself available to help your child when they need homework help
It can be coming to parent-information nights to learn more about education-related topics
It can be attending family fun nights with your child
It can be volunteering in the classrooms once in a while, on field-trips, or with our SCC events (no need to be on SCC to offer a helping hand!)
All of these things are equally important to fostering a positive attitude around education in your child! So give yourself a break and take some time to evaluate what is possible for you at this point in time, keeping in mind it can change next month or next year!
