The OSSLT is a computer-based assessment that comprises
two sessions (Session A and Session B) containing a total of 33 questions:
31 selected-response questions (e.g. multiple-choice, drag and drop, drop-down menu, checklist)
Two open-response questions.
Each session is designed to be completed in 60 minutes, and students complete each session in one sitting. However, all students have extra time to complete the test if needed.
At the end of the two assessment sessions, students will be presented with a questionnaire that asks them about their attitudes and perceptions with respect to literacy.
A short non-fiction reading and seven selected-response reading questions.
A non-fiction paragraph reading and six selected-response reading questions
A news report reading, one short answer question (100 words) and five selected-response reading questions
A dialogue between two people reading and five selected-response reading questions.
Eight selected-response reading questions based on grammar and sentence structure.
One open-response question where students must answer in of a series of paragraphs supporting their opinion on the topic provided (500 words).
