Hello Ormiston families ! My name is Lisa Hughes and I will be part of the kindergarten educator team this year. I am new to the school but have been in Kindergarten for over 8 years. I have 3 children and 2 fur babies! I love the outdoors, and everything to do with water! Travel, yoga, and gardening are some of my favourites, as well. Ormiston is such a great school because of its students, families, and staff, so I have never taught anywhere else! When I am not at school, I love to spend time with my family, to read (of course), and to play golf. Hello everyone, I have been a DDSB Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) for 32 years and am excited to be coming back to Ormiston for a third year. I look forward to working with our kindergarten students to help develop their best possible communication, social language, literacy and numeracy skills. SLP’s provide support to education staff, parents and caregivers through collaboration and consultation, with an emphasis on prevention, intervention and enrichment. Consultation services are available by contacting your child’s classroom teacher or the Special Education Resource Teacher.
English Language Learner Coach
Hello! My name is Jessica Samaroo and I am an English Language Learner (ELL) Coach with the DDSB. The DDSB assigns ELL Coaches to schools in the Durham Region. These coaches assist newcomers and other students who speak a different language at home. They offer support to educators and connect Multilingual Learners and their families to various resources to support language learning and transition to life in Canada. I am so happy that Ormiston PS is one of the schools I get to visit and support each week. I am excited to meet all our new friends joining the Ormiston School Community this September!
