Thank you for your understanding and patience as we reorganized into our current class groupings. We realize that such transitions can be stressful on students (and families) and so we appreciate your support as we carry on.
With the cold weather staying longer and longer, please remember to be vigilant and check your children daily for the following symptoms:
Don't forget that online yo-yo sales end this Thursday (Nov 26th) and that our next SCC meeting will be on Dec. 7th at 6:30 pm.

It was great to see so many students in costume today - it provided a little more festive spirit in the day!
Our next School Community Council meeting will be this Monday at 6:30 pm and will take place virtually. A school messenger link will be sent out that afternoon if you wish to join us. You can also check the LBP office website for a link.
Please contact your child's teacher directly to book an interview time. Interviews will take place in the later afternoon/evening on Nov. 12th and the morning of Nov. 13th. Progress reports will be sent home on November 11th.
Even though we are a couple of months into the school year, please remember to be vigilant about screening your child for symptoms before sending them to school.
October 23, 2020
Unfortunately one of our students tested positive for COVID. We hear they are doing well and hope to see the student return soon.
The Department of Health investigation concluded that no staff or students were at risk since the student was not at school during the contagious period. However it is a good reminder for us all to be vigilant about maintaining hand sanitizing and social distancing procedures. We thank all of you for your understanding during this time.
On October 30th, it will be a black and orange/costume spirit day. If students decide to wear a costume they must come to school already wearing the costume (so wear at own risk). A cloth/medical mask should continue to be worn underneath. We ask that families do NOT send any treats unlike past practices. The FDK-grade 3/4 classes may go out for a community walk during the day. Please touch base with your child's teacher as to when the walk is taking place.
Progress reports will be sent home on November 11th. Telephone or virtual interviews will take place on Nov 12th from 4-7pm and Nov 13th from 9-12pm. Individual teachers may have flexibility in their availability times to accommodate parent(s). Please contact the teacher directly to establish an interview time or you can call the office at 9054274658 to schedule an appointment with a particular teacher. Teachers will do their best to accommodate your availability.

On Monday we have a special drum instructor, Mr. Lazar, who will work our older students and teach them basic drumming skills. Mr. Lazar is the leader of Samba Squad, a musical group that has performed throughout Toronto.
It is Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day on Thursday, Oct. 22nd! Many thanks to Mrs. R. and Ms. Freeman for all of your invaluable work!

Thanks to everyone that joined us for our virtual Meet the Teacher evening! It was great to see whole families joining in! Thanks to all of the teachers for making time to talk about their classrooms and connecting with families that night.
Our first SCC meeting will be held virtually on Monday, Oct. 5th at 6:30 pm. A link to the Google Meet will be sent on via school messenger on Monday. You could also email patrick.li@ddsb.ca to request a link as well. Nomination forms for an executive position on the SCC were to be in today.
Don't forget that the final date to request a switch to online learning is October 5th. In order to do this, please email elementaryathome@ddsb.ca to indicate your preference.
Remind your children to come to school with a mask (grades 4-8) and perhaps keep an extra mask in their backpack. Also make sure your children bring utensils for their lunch!
There will be no school on October 12th as it is a holiday (Thanksgiving).
Our "Tens for Terry" Fox run is coming soon! Terry Fix shirts will be distributed to students next week if you ordered one!
September 25, 2020
A reminder that the school office will be closed from 11:35 a.m. and 12:40 p.m. to phone calls and visitors. Please try to drop-off/pick-up your child before or after these times if possible.
If your child goes out for lunch, please speak to them about maintaining social distancing/hand sanitizing practices no matter where they are. We also ask all of these to return to the school as close to 12:40 pm. as possible.
On Wednesday, Sept. 30th, LBP will be hosting a virtual Meet the Teacher Night! You might want to order/cook up a hamburger/hot dog and then use your computer/phone to meet your child's teacher(s). The Curriculum Night link above will give you more details on how to participate.
On October 15th and 16th, our school will be participating in the Terry Fox Run. The theme for this year is "Tens for Terry". Students will be encouraged to walk/run 10 laps of our "track" over the two days. Each family is encouraged to donate at least $10 to the Terry Fox Foundation using this link https://terryfox.org/
Every donation will receive a tax receipt.
You can also support the Terry Fox foundation by purchasing a 40th anniversary of the run t-shirt through our school cash-on-line. Purchases of t-shirts must be made by Sept. 30th in order for students/families to receive their shirts before Oct. 15th.
October 5th is our virtual School Community Council meeting at 6:30 pm. If you wish to take on an executive position, please email patrick.li@ddsb.ca to request a nomination form. Nomination forms should be emailed to patrick.li@ddsb.ca by Oct. 2, 2020.
Some of you have been requesting information on how to sign up for the YMCA after school program. It is free but they can only accommodate a limited number of children from FDK-8. The program runs on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays after school until 5:45 pm.
You can fill out an application form here:

It was wonderful to have a school day with all of the students! The energy and excitement from the students was definitely enjoyable! Thanks to all of you for preparing your children so well with wearing masks and social distancing practices.
Very soon we will finalize details for our "Meet the Teacher " time. It will be in a virtual format and be organized in a way you can "visit" other teachers without any conflicts.
Similarly, our first School Community Council meeting will take place in a virtual environment on Monday, Oct. 5th at 6:30 pm. If you are interested in taking on an executive position this year, keep an eye out for the school messenger notice. It will include a nomination form.
Our bell times have been adjusted slightly. The students enter the school building at 8:50 am and lunch ends at 12:40 pm. If your child goes out/home for lunch, they should return to school as close to 12:40 pm as possible.
September 11, 2020
Welcome back everyone! It has been quite a while since our staff and students have seen each other! It was very nice to see all of the students and families again - and it is incredible to see how much the students have grown the past few months!
Thanks to all of you for modifying your drop-off and pick-up routines. Thank you for respecting the social distancing and being patient with the pick-up procedure.
As always, make sure you perform an assessment on your child before sending them to school:
Common COVID-19 Symptoms
New or worsening cough
Shortness of breath/difficulty breathing
Fever over 37.8 deg C
Sore throat
Difficulty Swallowing
Changes to sense of taste or smell
Nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain
Runny nose, or nasal congestion (not caused by seasonal allergies)
The following symptoms are less common and may occur in children or people living with a developmental disability:
Tiredness, feeling unwell or muscle aches
Worsening of chronic conditions
Chills
Headaches (unusual or long lasting)
Croup
Pink eye
Red/purple discolouration to hands, fingers, feet and/or toes, and skin may peel (COVID-toes)
Increased tiredness/fatigue
If your child is not well, please keep them home.
Right now we are keeping the kiss and ride running. If you prefer to not have anyone touch your car, you can have a sign on your car window (DO NOT NEED HELP) or try to use street parking to unload. If you use the kiss and ride and there is no sign, our staff will assume to need assistance with dropping off your child(ren).
School starts at 8:50 am and ends at 3:25pm. Lunch is from 11:35am-12:35pm.
From the week of Sept 14-18, students will come to school in the following order:
Mon. Sept 14 - surname A-M
Tues. Sept 15 - surname N-Z
Wed. Sept 16 - surname A-M
Thurs. Sept 17 - surname N-Z
Fri. Sept 18 - all students
If parents/caregivers are waiting to pick up children from grades 1-3 at lunch or at the end of the day, we ask that you wait by the baseball diamond at the south end of the school at least two metres away from the black school fence. Parents of older grades should wait at the sidewalk to the north of the school. This will help allow for social distancing at the end of the day as students are dismissed.
Students should bring their snacks and lunch (nut-free). We do have students that have dairy allergies and classroom teachers will contact parents if this affects their child's class. Students should also bring a labelled reusable water bottle.
Students will not need to bring indoor shoes at this time but we do ask students have a change of clothing that could be kept in their backpack. Students will not be using coat hooks or lockers at this time. Items will be brought and stored in the classroom at the student's desk.
Students from grades 4-8 will be required to wear masks. We strongly encourage students in grade 3 to wear masks as well since some of these students may be in a grade 3/4 class. It is optional for FDK students to grade 3 to wear a mask but we encourage the wearing of masks if possible.
Students may bring in personal items (ie. coloring pencils) but they will be kept at the student's desk once they are at school. Students may bring in small outdoor equipment (ie. basketball , skipping rope) but it will be for personal use only while at school. If possible these items should also be left at school.
Students from FDK-3 will be eating lunch and going out for recess at a separate time from students in grade 4-8.
We ask parents to not enter the school unless an appointment is made. Where possible, please call the school at 9054274658 to schedule a telephone call with your child's teacher. If you need to pick up/drop your children, please ring the bell at the front door and a staff member will let your child in.
There will be bins left inside the front door to drop off lunches. There will be several bins so we ask that each family leave their lunches in only one bin.
If a child needs to be excluded from class because of COVID or any other health reason, the child will need to be picked up and brought home.
We thank you for your understanding and patience in this regard.
As the school year progresses we will provide updates on how we can all work to make the school year as informative and as safe as possible.
Mr Li
Principal
