Grade 10 & 11 students should be looking at post secondary programs of interest!
You don't have to know what you want to be exactly but peruse what exists; look at future demands
Determine what you don't want to do
Read about the Accessibility Office "self-identification" process at any schools of interest. Students must self-identify that they have an exceptionality at the post-secondary level to access accommodations. Colleges and universities will not seek you out.
Processes are different at each school. Ask, and if possible, attain a list of documents you will need to self-identify and how recent they must be.
Contact AR with the list of potential documents you will need to self-identify as having an exceptionality. We can help make sure these are all ready to go when you do need them. Some documents take longer to get then others- contact your SERT if this is unclear.
Grade 12 students:
Look at specialty college "upgrade" courses designed for students in the workplace stream to upgrade to college programs
Consider bridging programs between Colleges and Universities as you plan your path to success.
After accepting your offer, confirm with the Accessibility Office at the post-secondary institution that you are identified. Provide the necessary documentation to be sure you can access accommodations to continue your success (e.g. extra time on midterms and exams; etc.)
Students who qualify for ODSP should begin planning with the help of their family in Grade 9.
It is helpful to work with services like Community Living during this process.
Identified students must self-identify at their post secondary institute. Each institute's service can be called by different names (student services, etc) and each school has different requirements of documentation
It is important to contact these services early to verify the documentation you need
It is important to clarify exactly what accommodations will be available.
