Disease treatment relies on effective pharmaceuticals.

Yet, pharmaceutical pollution poses a serious and emerging threat to the health of ecosystems.

Earlier this year, the first truly global study of pharmaceuticals in freshwater found that Iceland is the only country where none of the monitored pharmaceuticals were detected*.

The European Commission is working on a Revision of the EU general pharmaceutical legislation to tackle, inter alia, environmental challenges.

The PiE Conference 2022 will capitalise on this unique momentum to give new impetus to the fight against pharmaceutical pollution by bringing together representatives of the EU institutions, civil society, academia and innovative companies.
