What we are learning in November
Spelling Tests are most Fridays. Your classroom teacher will communicate when those are. We will not have a spelling test the week of Thanksgiving. Patterns this month are trigraphs tch/dge, double trouble, and consonant blends.
Math: Topics 5 will be working on addition and subtraction equations. Your child will be writing equations, solving equations with unknown factors, solving story problems, adding three numbers, and making equations true by using strategies such as counting on and counting back, using doubles and near doubles, adding to 5, adding to 10, adding in any order, using a parts board , using a number line, and thinking addition to subtract. We will also do topic 6, which is represent and interpret data. Your child will learn to organize information in different types of graphs as well as learn to use tally marks and make picture graphs.
Reading: In Really Great Reading (BLAST), which breaks reading down in to how and why sounds make the sounds that they do. We will be working on trigraphs, which are three letters that make one sound. We will be working on the double trouble rule as well as consonant blends, which are two letters that make two sounds. In MY VIEW ,which expands on skills like grammar and comprehension. The following are skills we are working on in November:
-Phonemes (the sounds letters make)
- Identifying main idea
-Real words vs. Nonsense words
-Elements of drama
-Inflectional ending -ing -Explore author's purpose
-Sight words for unit 2 -Elements of Poetry
Unit Studies: We are learning about different kinds of owls, Veteran's Day, Fire Safety, and Thanksgiving.
