Math: Math instruction continues to strengthen and grow our number sense. We recently finished learning how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions. We are now focusing on interpreting data and developing a deeper understanding of what numbers and graphs are telling us. The NSCAS (state assessment) for math is scheduled for April 21st and 22nd.
Reading: We continue to work on identifying theme, making inferences, and applying other reading strategies to help us gain a deeper understanding of the texts we read. Students are exploring a variety of genres to strengthen their skills and broaden their thinking.
Please continue to set aside time each day for your child to read at home, as regular practice makes a significant difference in comprehension and confidence.
The NSCAS (state assessment) is scheduled for April 14th and 15th.
Writing: Wax Museum Update:
Dear Families,
We want to inform you of a change to our Wax Museum schedule and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. After careful consideration, and with our students’ well-being in mind, we have decided to move the event up by one week. Our goal is to ensure that students can complete their projects before state testing begins and avoid any added stress during that time.
Our new Wax Museum Night will be held on March 24th from 6:00–7:00 PM.
We believe this adjustment will give students the opportunity to confidently showcase their hard work and then fully focus on the upcoming testing window without having to balance both at once.
Additional details about the evening will be shared soon.
Thank you for your flexibility, understanding, and continued support of our 5th graders. We truly appreciate your partnership.
Sincerely,
The 5th Grade Team
Science: We are learning about how Earth’s systems interact and depend on one another. We have completed several inquiry-based lessons and watched videos to deepen and reinforce our understanding of these concepts. The 5th graders will also take the NSCAS (state assessment) for science on April 1st and 2nd.
Social Studies: We are learning about the Revolutionary War, the Constitution, and American government.
