Special Education

Welcome to the DC West Special Education Website!

The DC West Community Schools provides comprehensive special education services for students with disabilities from birth through age 21. Services include specialized instruction and the provision of accommodations and modifications designed to assist students in making progress in the general education curriculum to the best of their ability. Teams of educators, including general and special education teachers, administrators, speech-language pathologists, school psychologists, occupational and physical therapists, vision/hearing specialists, and paraeducators work with parents and students in a collaborative manner to ensure that every student has the support they need to be successful at school.

As a special education team, our core beliefs include:

  • All students can learn and make progress, and it is our responsibility to ensure that learning is accessible to all.

  • All students should feel welcome and included at school.

  • Fair doesn't mean equal; some students need different supports in order to make progress.

  • Relationships matter!

  • Early intervention at home and school is an important foundation that should be accessible to all children who need it.

At DC West, we believe that all students have the right to learn and be included with their peers. Our passion for students and learning supports students and families as partners in students' educational journeys.
