Statement on Student Library Book Selections
“At its core, literature is one of the best ways to help kids understand something without necessarily having to experience it for themselves. Reading to your child helps to expose them to all types of subjects and concepts, building our children’s understanding of humanity and the world around them.” (ReadBrightly.com)
The goal of the library is to build a sustained reading habit which in turn aids in developing the voice of the student writers we aspire to cultivate in our school. By giving students choice, we hope to ignite a passion for reading for pleasure or for knowledge. When we read, for a short time we are seeing the world through eyes different from our own. Thus, reading builds empathy. With empathy, we fight intolerance. We will not ban students from checking out any book in our library this year. If a student’s book choice in independent reading does not meet with guardian approval, please research the book before dismissing it, or work with your student and the school librarian to find an alternative book for the student to enjoy.
What's in the Picture?
Let's figure out what is hiding the image together by adding the correct color stickers to the board. (It may limit the number of digital sticks you can add per day.)
