Activities to Try
Number Sense Fluency
Play place-value games! Ask students to identify the place value for specific numbers, write, and read numbers. Use chalk, drawing paper, UNO cards, or dry-erase boards. Place Value Chart
Watch the Fraction Videos!! Try the Practice and Quiz activities to see if you understand.
Multiplying Fractions and Dividing Fractions
Create a shopping list and ask students to calculate the total cost.
Create flashcards and quiz students on multiplication facts.
Rate, Ratio, and Proportional Reasoning Using Equivalent
Fraction Food!! When students eat graham crackers, oranges, Hershey bars, pizza, Kit Kat bars, or Skittles, ask them to explain parts (numerator) of a whole (denominator): What fraction has been eaten? What fraction is left? What fraction did you share?
Watch the video and take notes (draw the visual representations): Adding Fractions with Common Denominator.
Complete parts a, b, c, and d of the Sidewalk Patterns Performance Task. Use the rest of the document to check for understanding, read explanations, and check your answers.
Expressions
Write a story about math using the keywords that represent each operation. Write the operation symbol (using a color coding method) above the keyword within the story. Keywords
Example. Add-Red, Subtract-blue, Multiply-black, Divide-green
Write expressions with Mr. J! Try the first 10 problems on your own (pause the video), then play Mr. Jay’s video to see if you are on the right track. Writing Expressions Part 1
Complete the Watch Out for Parentheses Activity: Does the order matter? Do the parentheses make a difference in your calculations? Watch Out for Parentheses
One-Step Equations and Inequalities
Name Game! Determine if the initials of your name make Equations and Inequalities: True or False.
Complete 10 to 20 problems you choose from this activity: Missing Addend.
Write inverse operation notes on a piece of paper. Remember to study! Sketch the graphic organizer:
Inverse Operation Notes. Then practice the process for Add/Subtract Inverse and Multiply/Divide Inverse.
Play the Inequalities Math Game to compare numbers from 0 to 100! Use the example on the page to help!
Create and decorate your anchor chart for customary and metric measurements. Here is an example: Example Anchor Chart.
Area and Volume
Create a collage using 2-D and 3-D figures. Cut out real-world examples of the figures from a magazine and label each figure as you place it on the collage.
Statistics
Ask friends and family for their shoe sizes! Organize the shoe sizes in order from least to greatest in a chart/table aligned with their names.
Create a dot plot that represents the frequency of the shoe sizes from your data chart. Example
Practice hitting the target on the Coordinate Plane Game.
**Practice the CUBES process to help solve math word problems!
