STUDENT GOVERNMENT
2021-2022 ELECTION RULES FOR CLASSES AND STUDENT GOVERNMENT
1. The 2021-2022 elections will take place during the first 4 weeks of the school year.
2. Elections will include officers for grades 9-12.
3. The elections shall be under the direction of the Advisor/Executive Board and are subject to change based on current COVID-19 health guidelines.
4. All candidates must attend an informational session before receiving an application packet for elections.
5. In order for an election application packet to be considered complete, it must contain all necessary signatures and three teacher recommendations.
6. All Executive and Class Level officers must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0, fewer than 10 absences (may appeal to SGA advisor) in previous semester, have no discipline referrals (may appeal to SGA advisor), and be enrolled in the Douglas County School System for one complete semester prior to running for office (GPA confirmed by Guidance Counselor). Final approval is subject to advisor and administration. SGA Officers must be able to commit to ALL SGA meetings and events as assigned by committee and advisor. If an SGA member does not do so, he or she will not be able to run the following year. In addition, they may be removed from SGA for the current year.
7. All representatives of SGA must be a student in good standing with satisfactory attendance determined by advisor and administration, a school leader and shall be distinguished by his/her loyalty to Alexander High School and his/her conduct. The student shall attend all SGA meetings and class level meetings, and shall bring input from his/her class regarding school issues. Attendance will be taken at each meeting. Students may miss no more than 1 total meetings throughout the school year. If more than 1 is missed, the student will be removed from SGA. Students more than 10 minutes late (without prior approval) to a meeting are considered absent.
8. All members are expected to display appropriate behavior at all SGA meetings and events, which includes: school-appropriate language, positive interaction with others, helping with assigned tasks (including setting up and cleaning up), and any other components as assigned by the SGA Advisor. Failure to do so, can result in removal from SGA.
9. Senior-level SGA Officers and Representatives are required to pay a $100 club fee, which includes graduation cords and an official SGA shirt that must be worn to events, as assigned by the SGA Advisor. 9th-11th grade members are required to pay a $75 club fee. This also includes the SGA shirt and club dues.
10. The SGA Executive Board consists of all Senior Level Officers. The Senior Class President is also SGA President. The Senior Class Vice President is also SGA Vice President, etc.
11. During traditional campaigning, all posters, materials, etc. must be removed from the school premises within 1 school day, after the election.
12. All SGA representatives and officers must display appropriate behaviors throughout the school year, as they showcase leadership among their peers at Alexander High School. Students that have discipline referrals, continuous tardies and absences, and disrespectful behavior (towards students, teachers, staff, or administration) during their time as an SGA member, will be subject to removal from the association.
