Ms. Jackson has been teaching for three years and currently serves as the 7th and 8th grade middle school science teacher at Discovery Charter School.
Throughout my teaching experience, I have worked in schools that serve under represented and economically challenged populations. As someone who has had the experience of such disadvantages I understand that a student’s academic journey is shaped by more than just textbooks. Learning is influenced by students' lived experiences, culture, and the opportunities they are given. My classroom approach is project-based learning, culturally responsive teaching, and the belief that science should be immersive, pertinent, and empowering.
Ensuring representation in STEM fields is essential. As a Black woman in sciences, I am proud to model success and resilience in a field that does not always extend to someone who looks like me with grace and opportunity. I intentionally provide my students with an environment that values curiosity, diverse perspectives, and holds every student to a high standard with compassion and support.
What intrigued me most about JYK Discovery Charter School is its emphasis on exploration, student voice, and community engagement. I am eager to contribute to a school community that shares my belief that education exceeds academic excellence, and includes inspiring the youth to envision and manufacture brighter futures for themselves and their communities.
