Greetings and Salutations. I am an art teacher with 28 years experience in art eduction.
I think being an Art Teacher is the best job in the world! It is very rewarding to see my students create new things and reach new heights. I can't imagine spending my life doing anything else.
My Education:
1993 - Bachelors of Fine Arts in Art - University of Texas at Austin
1997 - Bachelors of Arts in Education - University of Texas at Austin
2003 - Masters of Education in Psychology and Counseling - University of North Texas
My Art:
One of the most asked questions that I hear from students is, "Are you a real artist?" The answer is...YES!!! I am a real artist. I recently was the featured artist at the Highlands Ranch branch of the Douglas County libraries. It was my first solo show and consisted of 44 paintings and drawings. If you are interested in viewing my art, feel free to visit my personal Art Website or my Art Instagram account.
Why I do What I do:
I spent my formative years growing up in Europe and Central America. This has had a profound impact on my world view. I love learning about other cultures and their creativity. I travel outside of the country as often as I can for enjoyment and humanitarian work. During my travels I learn about unique cultures. I try to bring what I have learned in to the art room. It is my belief that students need to be exposed to the world outside the town in which they live. In today's society, where hate is so prevalent, it is important to learn to respect and even appreciate difference in others. A societies art is like a window into the soul of their culture. By learning to appreciate art from those who are not like us, we can begin to learn to celebrate our differences. It is my hope to share my experiences with culture with the students of Cresthill. Below are a few pictures from a couple of my trips to Venezuela and Africa
Artistic self-expression is not limited to the traditional fine art mediums of paper, paint, clay, and sculpture. Performance Art is another form of artistic-expression. Personally, I have been swing dancing since 2000 and spend quite a bit of my free time learning different kinds of dance. As a dancer I have been featured in plays, independent films, newspaper articles and have even had the opportunity to meet and dance with the late great Frankie Manning (pictures below). In my previous teaching positions I have had the opportunity to teach dance to elementary aged students. Because of this, I have learned many more styles of dance (dubestep, hip-hop, stepping, stomp...etc..). Feel free to ask me to show you a few dance moves. I'd be happy to teach you how to do the moonwalk, gliding or happy feet.
