❤️ Thank you ❤️

I just have to take a moment and say how much I have appreciated the overwhelming support of all you families as my own family goes through a rough time right now.  Your gift was so generous and I have loved getting your emails with words of encouragement and prayers.  It has truly been a blessing to be at school while we wait for Kaden's surgery date--I couldn't think of a more wanted distraction than being with your children!  I will miss the kids this week like crazy, but Mrs. Wolach (our beloved principal) will be in house to love on your kiddos while I'm gone!  Please feel free to email me anytime--I PROMISE you won't bother me!  I'm hoping to be back in some capacity on the 22nd.  Again, thank you for all the love you've shown me.

Young AmeriTowne

We are so excited for our fifth-grade field trip to Young AmeriTowne this Monday!

We look forward to a great day! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Biographies

The fifth grade will conclude the year in writing by reading a special biography and writing a research paper on it.  We would like each child to get a copy of a "Who Was/Is" book (the books with the fun caricatures on them).  They are extremely popular with over 250 people to choose from.  We chose these particular biographies because they are so kid-friendly and fun to read.  They have people from the distant past to people like Taylor Swift, from sports stars to inventors to royalty.

I happen to have 4 copies available to lend out (J.K. Rowling, Jackie Robinson, Marco Polo, and Walt Disney).  These are on a first come, first serve basis.  You can find these books at the public library (unfortunately our school library does not have any copies available) or on Amazon for purchase under $7.00.  Click on this link for a list I made to help inspire your child to pick someone who inspires them!  This is just a few of the books I found on Amazon so there may be others your child is interested in.  We need these books at school by April 22nd, if possible. Thank you!

WHat we are Learning

We are halfway through our novel study in Front Desk.  This has been such an enjoyable read.  There are so many themes that lend themselves to terrific discussions: kindness, poverty, racism, family, the American dream, and the power of the written word. I am enjoying the reactions and thoughtfulness the kids are putting into it!

Due to CMAS testing, we took a pause on math for the week.  This next week will be reviewing Topic 12 with measurement in customary and metric units.  Our test will be on Thursday.

Our preparation for Young AmeriTowne is complete.  We spent the week practicing writing out checks and keeping track of expenses in our registers.  We had our first staff meetings and prepared by looking at the budget for our business, talking through strategies and coming up with a logo.  The kids are ready--can't wait to see them in action!

The class has been working hard on a research project for our first Multicultural Fair on Monday, April 22nd.  We have chosen Poland since we have a family in our class from this beautiful country.  We have had such fun working together in teams learning about the culture, geography, attractions, education, food, language, famous people and holidays that makes up Poland.  A HUGE thank you to Joanna Buchanan for sharing so much information and resources with us. 🇵🇱
