Thank you to ALL of you who helped donate stuffed animals to Children's Hospital!  We donated over 150 stuffed animals last week!!  Amazing!!

WHat we are Learning

We have officially begun our work in Front Desk. The kids have enjoyed learning about the main characters, setting and antagonist.  This week in Wonders, we continue reading nonfiction and working on summarizing through gathering details and writing a central idea.  We will be reading the story of  Winter, the dolphin who ended up learning to swim with a prosthetic tail--so fun! 🐬

We continue in Topic 9 with learning how to divide fractions.  We will specifically be using the saying "Keep, Switch, Flip" to help the students learn the step-by-step way to divide fractions.  Below is a helpful video that you and your child can use to help refresh your memory of dividing fractions.

This week, we have been looking into the three parts of the first American Colonies: New England, Middle, and Southern Colonies.  Each have similarities and differences and we will be taking notes to examine the ethical issues we see in each colonial area.  Our end of unit test is this Friday.  There is a Blooket on Google Classroom to help the student study.  They may use their notes during the test.

Fan Fic continues!  I was able to read all of the students' fan fic on the story "Flash Flood".  I am so pleased with how far their writing has developed!  They are really writing like 5th graders, using so much sensory detail and great vocabulary!  Feel free to look into your child's Google Classroo to find their writing, as well as their grade on the final project.

We are going to continue fan fic by writing an event from our novel, Front Desk, but changing the event to a different character's point of view.  This should be interesting!
