The annual Heritage Fund Run is Wednesday, September 13th. We will be running laps with the rest of 5th grade from 11:05-11:45 that day.

We are VERY low on fundraising for our class!  This is such an easy fundraiser to send out to friends and relatives who live near or far.  I encourage you to take the time to set up your fundraising page and raise money for our school.

Remember:  funds go straight into resources for YOUR CHILD!!

FUND RUN HELP!!!

We are DESPERATELY in need of Fund Run Volunteers on Wednesday, September 13th.  As a parent, I have had so much fun over the years volunteering to blow bubbles, squirt water guns and cheer on my own Heritage Elementary students while they ran/walked laps to raise money for our school!  Come out and join the fun!  Here's how you can sign up to help:

WHat we are Learning

In reading this week, the students have been sorted into a few different groups for Reading Flooding time.  One of the benefits of having so many groups is so we can cater to your child's individual areas in need of growth for this year.  Your child may be working on using context clues to determine the meaning of a vocabulary word on Monday and using a plot summary to map out narrative text.  We believe this will encourage great growth in reading this year!

Our new writing project answers the question, "How are cell phones important to our daily lives?" The students have been so thoughtful about coming up with a few big ideas and then adding great supportive details to each one.  This next week, we are going to take our writing further and discuss what it looks like to narrow our focus even further.

We finished our Topic 2 unit on adding and subtracting with decimals.  Topic 3 will go over multiplying and dividing with decimals.  Please note:  we have a new policy with math homework.  ALL students are REQUIRED to turn in a hard copy showing their work each night.  Work can be shown on a simple piece of lined paper.  We are concerned with how careful our fifth graders are being with their homework and want to help them as much as possible.  Thank you!

This next week, we begin our "Web of Life" science unit.  In this unit, students explore how organisms depend on one another and form an interconnected ecosystem. Students investigate food chains, food webs, and the importance of producers, consumers, and decomposers.
