WHat we are Learning

This week, we continue to explore the question, "What are the positive and negative effects of new technology?" We will be reading argumentative text that tells us about the pros and cons of video games, explores whether technology is good or bad, and learn about robots and driverless cars. Ā  We will be working on identifying Author's Claim and using text features to help support defining the main idea.

Over the next few weeks, we will be writing using our Wonders program.Ā  The students will be answering the question: Should Florida's government use funds to protect natural resources or develop land? Ā Our focus is to be able to integrate information from several texts on the same topic in order to write about the subject knowledgeably while make a clear claim.

Topic 4 begins this next week and the focus is using models and strategies to multiply decimals.Ā  For a quick review, check out Khan Academy's videos on how to multiply multi-digit numbers with decimals.

We have begun to talk about decomposers and are headed into somel fun, yet gross projects!Ā  The students will discover the role fungi play in decomposing dead materials by making their own "mold terrariums".Ā  šŸ˜µā€šŸ’« Next, students observe earthworms (yes, REAL earthworms! šŸŖ±) and then design their own ā€œfair testā€ investigations of earthworm behavior to figure out if worms prefer dry or wet areas.
