HOW DO I JOIN?
What are some ways to get involved?
To join eSports, there's an easy three step process -
1. Email Coach Yergert at jayergert@dcsdk12.org from your DCSD email.
2. Use the link from the email to join our Discord server. Read the rules before posting! Discord is where we post all of our news and announcements. We recommend that our members download the mobile app and have notifications on for both the announcements channel and their individual team chat. All competing gamers must be reachable via Discord or risk suspension from the team.
After joining the Discord, you can be as involved as you want to be. We have plenty of casual gamers who hang out and chat in the Discord - look at your game's channel to find people who play the same game! On the Discord, you'll also find information on how to join competing teams, help with broadcasts on our school Twitch channel, plan activities for members, and more! We run most of our day-to-day business via our Discord server!
How often does eSports meet?
We meet every Tuesday and Thursday during Seminar. Many students gather before and after school in E203 to scrim and practice.
What are the requirements for playing?
Students hoping to join a competing team MUST attend the start-of-season interest meeting. Each competing game handles tryouts and teams a bit differently - students can learn more from their team manager or from the appropriate channel in our Discord server.
Competing eSports players are expected to...
1) Maintain good grades and be academically eligible - if you are failing more than one class, you are not able to compete in eSports matches.
2) Be available at 4pm for practices and games - this typically means you cannot be on another Legend sports team at the same time! If you are too busy to make this commitment, we invite you to join our subs list or compete in a future season instead.
3) Check Discord often, as it is our primary form of communication!
What games do we play? Can we add my favorite game?
As our team continues to grow, we will look into adding more games, but game offerings are ultimately determined by CHSAA and PlayVS.
FEES
2024: PlayVS, our platform through which we get our matches, changed their pricing structure this year and we don't have to charge nearly as much as we did last year. This season we've cut the fee from $125 to $60. I hope this makes things more accessible for families. If the cost is a problem, please reach out to me.
TIME COMMITMENT
You are only required to attend on days that you are playing competitively. In this way, eSports is very flexible. That said, please communicate if you cannot show up on a game day, as that is a process that requires coordination to make sure those who want to play still can.
Match lengths are estimates and may vary depending on how the game plays out. We are frequently done in about an hour, but hopefully not longer than about an hour and a half at most. We have in the past played Valorant matches that have exceeded two hours, so it's very much at mercy of how the game progresses and whether or not we experience tech issues.
I know they're playing video games, but please give your student time to practice and play. Your student NEEDS to be available for games. Our teams typically have one alternate on the bench if a student has an that they absolutely cannot miss, but please treat this as any other sport-- competitors need to be there for our matches. If we forfeit more than one match, we are ineligible for the postseason. We're in pretty continual contact with college coaches from Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, and New Mexico about their programs and scholarships which are available to your student after graduation.
Students who compete in Esports MUST fill out and return the Code of Conduct. It can be found below.

CASUAL PLAY
"Do I have to compete?" is a question we receive OFTEN. The answer is NO! eSports is hosted during our Seminar hour, and if you sign up feel free to play casually with competitors and other casuals alike. We have Nintendo Switches and some games, but you are more than welcome to bring your own equipment.
