Hi There!
Welcome to 8th Grade Language Arts on team Challenger! My name is Matt Rogers (Mr. Rogers) and I am so excited to be teaching at Sierra Middle School this year. For centuries, the human race has taught people about life using stories and poems. Even so today we share our life lessons through movies and music. This is why I love teaching language arts - I get to teach more than just reading and writing. I get to teach life!
In the past, I spent seven years teaching 6th grade at Arrowwood Elementary School in Highlands Ranch. I found my time with 6th grade incredibly rewarding and I have discovered a passion for transition ages (8th grade transitioning into high school). This will be my 11th year teaching! Wooho!
Aside from reading and movies, I am a national level Judo competitor and coach. I own my own Judo club in Highlands Ranch called Mile High Judo, where I coach around twenty teenagers and adults. We take our team to local and national tournaments on a regular basis and are becoming highly competitive.
I am beyond excited for this school year and I can't wait to see what is in store for us! My time at Sierra Middle School last year was incredibly rewarding. I can't wait to see what this year has in store!
-Matt
