Teaching is my passion and I am so excited to teach and get to know you all this year! I am here to support you with anything you need. One of the main reasons I have always wanted to be a teacher is because I love helping kiddos become the best versions of themselves. My door is always open and I am always here to help! :)

My name is Katie Patterson, and I am so excited to be your science teacher this year! I am a Colorado native who grew up in Highlands Ranch and Colorado Springs, and I am so excited to teach and be back in Douglas County. This will be my fourth year at Sierra Middle School, and on Team Challenger! Prior to joining the Sierra community, I worked with grades 6-9 in Boulder Valley School District as both a substitute and a student teacher. I graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder with a degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and my licensure in Secondary Science Education. I have wanted to be a teacher since I was 12 years old and I love that I get to follow my dream career!
In my free time I love to travel, ski, write, go to concerts, and spend time with friends and family!

8th Grade Science at Sierra!
This year in science we will be exploring 4 units:
Unit 1: Weather and Climate
Unit 2: Genetics and Selection
Unit 3: Energy Transfer & Sound/Light Waves
Unit 4: Space!
Students can look forward to making DNA out of candy, debates, building roller coasters, and everyone's favorite, making ice cream!
I love science because it allows learning to be hands on and is always changing around us, meaning there are lots of real world connections we get to make in class.
My Everyday Teaching Goal:
To teach science with passion and enthusiasm, and to create a strong, inclusive classroom community.
