As a counselor and educator for over 20 years I have had the opportunity to watch people, young and old, grow and change and discover their potential.
I have a Masters Degree in Counseling from Denver Seminary and worked in private practice and later in higher education before moving into the field of school counseling in 2018.
From personal experience with childhood trauma, and my current experience of being a mom, I have always had a soft spot in my heart for children and families coping with the "stuff" of life - whether the every day stress or in times of crisis. I am honored to be able to serve the Coyote Creek community as your School Counselor, to guide and encourage students, parents, and staff through the ups and downs of life.
My husband, Shawn and I have a son, Jack and a mini Goldendoodle named Dash. Together we enjoy skiing, hiking, camping and exploring State and National Parks. When it's time to relax I like reading, pilates, watercolor painting and spending time outdoors, walking, gardening, or just sitting still for a moment in the Colorado sun.
Hi, I am Sophia Atwood. I prefer to be called Sophie by friends and coworkers, and Ms. Sophie by my students. I have a bachelor’s degree in psychology and education, a Master’s degree in applied psychology, and a Master’s in School counseling. I am currently working on becoming a Registered Play Therapist. I have 19-plus years of teaching Elementary school students, and this is my second year of working as an Elementary school counselor. I have a passion for working with kids and believe kids do better if we believe in them. I feel adults/parents/caregivers are the same way. I am passionate about helping and coaching students through the challenges they face. I believe in the power of compassionate listening, practical support, and the simple truth that everyone is capable of growth and change. As a school counselor at Coyote Creek Elementary my aim is to collaborate with students and stakeholders to create a bridge for students and families alike where they feel supported, heard and seen.
I love traveling with my family, especially with my son. I have a huge bucket list, and I actively work on it. I love to take walks when I can. I am a huge book worm, non-fiction mostly but I do dig good kids’ books as I read them with my son who is ten. I love to cook and bake; these days my jam is creating new sauces to go with different baked fish and salads.
