Mission & Vision Statements

 Mission:

The CCE Counseling Program will provide engaging, standards based prevention lessons and intervention supports which motivate students to engage mindfully with their academic work, peers, and teachers.  Through collaboration with students, teachers, staff and parents, we seek to foster awareness of self and others in a safe and respectful environment.

Vision:

The CCE School Counseling program will empower all students to develop the skills necessary for personal success during their school years and beyond. With an awareness of each student’s unique traits and talents, and collaboration with all stakeholders, we will help students recognize their individual potential and work toward realization of their personal, academic, and career goals.

What's the deal with Social and Emotional Learning?

What Is Elementary School Counseling?

The elementary school years set the foundation for developing the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary for children to become healthy, competent and confident learners. Elementary school counselors have an impact on these years by implementing a school counseling program and collaborating with school staff, parents and the community to create a safe and respectful learning environment.

By providing education, prevention, early identification and intervention, elementary school counselors help their students achieve academic success, develop an understanding of career opportunities and develop social and emotional skills in response to issues they face.

2023-24 Theme: Resilience

During the 2023-24 School Year, my focus at CCE with all of our K-6 students will be on Resilience. This important life skill is the ability to bounce back from difficult situations and not give up when things get hard. It includes problem solving and trying new things as well as asking for help when appropriate. This is one of several important skills* that all students need to be successful in life.  Through classroom lessons, one on one conversations with students, and other school-wide activities, we will work to promote resilience in all of our CCE students!

Are you looking for ways to help boost your child's resilience at home? Check out a few of the resources I have posted under Growth Mindset & Resilience on my Resources Page.

Social Emotional Learning (SEL)

The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) is committed to ensuring that all students have what they need to learn, stay safe and make healthy choices through social and emotional learning. Through classroom lessons, small groups and 1:1 work with students, the School Counselor helps support SEL at Coyote Creek.

This support is largely proactive and preventive in nature, taking place in classroom lessons. The interventions provided for students in small groups or 1:1 will fall into one of these five core competencies as well.

Mindfulness and SEL

Check out this short video to learn more about Social Emotional Learning (SEL)

Part of our school-wide focus on SEL includes the practice of mindfulness. Simply defined, mindfulness is being aware of our thoughts and feelings in the present moment. And because thoughts and feelings impact choices and behaviors, this is something educators and parents are growing passionate about! Incorporating simple practices like mindful breathing is the starting point for helping children with such things as:

As part of our continued school-wide SEL work, classroom teachers and I will model and teach various mindfulness practices that students can use in school and at home to help them calm big emotions and make wise choices.

To give parents a better picture of how mindfulness can help kids, The Child Mind Institute has put together information on how it works, how it can be used at home and in school, and  the role mindfulness can play in treating a variety of mental health issues. Check it out! And please contact Mrs. Edwards if you have any questions about Mindfulness at CCE.
