About Mrs. Edwards

Debbie Edwards, MA, LPC

As a counselor and educator for almost 20 years I have had the opportunity to watch people, young and old, grow and change and discover their potential.

I have a Masters Degree in Counseling from Denver Seminary and worked in private practice and later in higher education before moving into the field of school counseling in 2018.

From personal experience with childhood trauma, and my current experience of being a mom, I have always had a soft spot in my heart for children and families coping with the "stuff" of life - whether the every day stress or in times of crisis.  I am honored to be able to serve the Coyote Creek community as your School Counselor, to guide and encourage students, parents, and staff through the ups and downs of life.

My husband, Shawn and I have a son, Jack and mini golden doodle named Dash. Together we enjoy skiing, hiking, camping and exploring State and National Parks. When it's time to relax I like reading, practicing pilates, and spending time outdoors, walking, gardening, or just sitting still for a moment in the Colorado sun.

Prevention is my passion

Building a prevention framework to support students through these early years of life is why I decided to become a school counselor. In a world where the pressure to perform and concerns for safety seem to overwhelm our thoughts and decisions, it has never been more important to equip young children with the social and emotional skills they need to succeed in school and in life.

The elementary years are the time when children are building decision-making, communication and life skills. This is also a time when students develop and acquire attitudes toward school, self, peers, social groups and family. It is my job to help teach the knowledge, attitudes and skills students need in order to be successful in school and throughout life - this includes academic, career and social/emotional development.

I will work with students one on one, in small groups and through classroom lessons to help them build solid social/emotional foundations, which in turn will contribute to their academic and career success later in life.

I'm here to help all students get the most out of each day of learning. This will look different for each student and I can't do it alone. I look forward to partnering with teachers, staff, school administrators, and families to provide the support and encouragement every child needs. I do not work in isolation and I certainly don't know your child the way you do, so I welcome parent/guardian and teacher feedback, questions, and collaboration any time.
