First graders will need to know at least 100 sight words plus 32 kindergarten sight words (a total of at least 132 words) by the end of the year. We also call these words “snap” words. To stay on track, we like them to know about 82 words by December. Kids should learn and know these in a “SNAP!” Please do not “sound out” these words.
Students will have sight words coming home in their book baggies, but if you would like to make some additional words at home to practice, here is the list.
Please don’t make all at once or that would be overwhelming.😁 If you want to practice more words, make an extra 5 to keep at home for your child work on until they are known automatically and fluently! As you are flipping through them each night, if your kid doesn’t get the word right away, tell them what the word is, and then put it back in the pile. Thank you for your support from home!
