Greetings families!
I hope you and your family had a wonderful summer! I’m popping in to share a little about myself and our classroom as your kiddo heads to third grade this year!
My name is Megan Coe, and I am so excited to be your child’s teacher! I cannot wait for this year to begin so that we can get to know one another and have a fun, successful year of learning!
A little about me: I am a Colorado native and have lived in Colorado most of my life. I attended college at Michigan State University (Go Green!) where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. After undergrad, I moved home to Colorado where I began working in kindergarten classrooms in Douglas County School District. I fell in love with teaching and went back to complete my teaching license from the University of Colorado, Denver. Shortly after my daughter was born, I completed my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from UC Denver as well. This is my 9th year teaching, and my third year at Gold Rush Elementary (although many of your students have already met me as I subbed at Gold Rush for two years prior to returning to the classroom). I have such a passion for learning and I hope to share that with your student this year as well.
I am a wife and mother with two kiddos (my son is a fourth grader and my daughter is in sixth grade). My family and I are complete Disney nerds, and also share a love of board games, and pickleball! You will often find us on the weekend out and about trying out new board games, honing our pickleball skills or walking our pups named Barley and Remy.
As we start our year in third grade please know that I highly value working as a team to support your child in third grade. I think that parent-teacher communication is of utmost importance to the success of your child and our classroom. Email is typically the best way to reach me (mecoe@dcsdk12.org). You can expect monthly updates on what we are studying in our classroom, as well as any upcoming events for your student/ Gold Rush Elementary. We will be starting our year with community building, routine setting, as well as learning about multiplication, studying plant and animal life cycles, reading about animal characteristics, and writing narratives.
Additionally, I look forward to meeting you and your student at “Meet the Teacher” on the morning of August 6. During your scheduled time (you should have received a link from the front office to schedule a time) students will drop off their supplies, get acquainted with our classroom and finish by taking their picture in the gym after our visit. Please remember to bring the majority of your supplies with you (if possible) on this day so that students do not have the burden of carrying their supplies as we will have the traditional Flag Ceremony on the first day of school.
I will have permanent markers available for your student at “Meet the Teacher” so they can label their supplies; however, if you would like to get a jump start on the supply set-up for that day, here are some time-saving tasks for you:
*Remove the packaging from all materials.
*Label the front of the folders in large, permanent ink (either directly on the cover or with a label) with your student’s name and following subject areas:
(red folder): READING
(yellow folder): WRITING
(blue folder): MATH
(green folder): SOCIAL STUDIES/SCIENCE
(purple folder): WORD WORK
(orange folder): HOMEWORK
Please also label each of the composition books with your student’s name and one of these subject areas and place it in the above, matching folder. (The composition book you label READING will go inside the red READING folder. The composition book you label WRITING will go in the yellow folder, etc.)

*Sharpen all pencils
*Label your child’s name on their headphones, as we will use them our first week.
Please bring in the completed Emergency Dismissal form.
Please send in a family photo print or printout of a photo for us to display in our classroom this year. Kids love looking at these photos of themselves and their friends! (We will not be able to return these images to you, so please make copies of any cherished photos that you want to keep at home).
Please send a water bottle with your child each day along with a hearty and healthy snack such as fruit, vegetables, hummus, string cheese, or cheese and crackers, yogurt, sandwiches -- anything that will help your child sustain their learning and focus.
Lastly, please double check that each adult family member has received this email communication from me. I have entered each email address listed in infinite campus, but there are sometimes new email addresses to swap out or additional email addresses to enter. Just let me know if there are any changes for me to make. I want to make sure you are receiving everything. 🙂
Our special the first week of school will be STEAMM.
Finally, if there is an alternate email you would like me to use, please let me know ASAP by responding to this email and providing me with the new email address you would like me to use.
Enjoy the last few weeks of summer break. I can’t wait to meet you on August 6th and see you for our first day on August 13th!
Best regards,
Mrs. Coe
