Hi! My name is Veta Nelan. I am excited to be teaching 5th grade this year. I am a Denver native, and I love the mountains, the Broncos, and all things Colorado! This is my 14th year teaching Discovery classes at Northridge Elementary and my 19th year teaching. I have two sons. Danny is 21 and Jason is 24. Watching my boys play sports, reading, gardening, and eating chocolate are things I love to do. Teaching has always been a passion of mine. When I was very young, I said I wanted to be a mom, a teacher, and an anthropologist. So far, I've accomplished two out of three, and who knows what the future holds? I am passionate about lifelong learning and hope to pass my love of learning to others.
My Educational Philosophy
I believe in creating a nurturing classroom environment where the diverse and unique needs of my students are addressed, celebrated, and respected. Fostering the development of an intrinsic passion for life long learning through mutual respect and understanding, becomes a theme and focus in our classroom, as my students experience the challenges of learning at their individual level and pace.
