My name is Genessey Cowles, and I’m so excited to be starting my sixth year teaching 3rd grade at MHE...the very school where I began my teaching journey!
I was born and raised in Colorado and grew up in Castle Rock. As a proud graduate of Castle View High School, I attended DCSD schools from kindergarten through graduation, making it especially meaningful to now teach in the very district that shaped me.
After high school, I pursued my passion for education at the University of Colorado Boulder, where I earned my degree in Elementary Education along with an endorsement in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CLD) Education. In 2023, I earned my Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction, and I continue to seek opportunities to evolve as an educator so I can provide the best possible learning experiences for my students.
When I'm not at school, you'll almost always find me spending time with the people I love most. Whether it's a day in the mountains, paddle boarding on the lake, a competitive game night around the table, or a relaxing evening in the backyard, I cherish any chance to be with my family. I also love spending time outdoors with my golden retriever, Mowgli. He's my adventure buddy, my best friend, my shadow, and, without question, the sweetest, most gentle giant you'll ever meet.
Another one of my passions is photography. I love photographing families and seniors because it gives me the opportunity to preserve moments that often pass by far too quickly. There's something incredibly special about capturing genuine smiles, meaningful connections, and memories that families will cherish for years to come. Photography has become one of my favorite creative outlets and serves as a reminder to slow down and appreciate life's little moments. (Don't hesitate to reach out if you want a shoot!)
Teaching has always been so much more than a career to me...it's truly where my heart is. I believe the best learning happens when students feel both supported and challenged. I strive to create a classroom where every child feels safe enough to take risks, confident enough to tackle challenges, and inspired to reach their highest potential. I hold my students to high expectations because I know they are capable of incredible growth, and I love watching them discover just how much they can achieve.
I feel incredibly grateful to be part of the MHE and DCSD community, and I can't wait to partner with you to make this a year filled with growth, confidence, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
Welcome to 3rd grade. I’m so glad you’re here!
