Art:
We have designed a class that stimulates the young creative mind but will teach students to let go of the day and focus on self expression. Art helps us grow and evolve in our understanding of ourselves, each other, and the world we live in. My goal for every student is to create works of art that students are proud of and grow from. Students learn skills in developing a project from start to finish and can reflect on the process with positive unbiased criticism.
My earliest memory of thinking I could be successful at something I loved was when I entered a drawing contest for a local jewelry store. For Mother's day our small town mall promoted sales with a youth contest; draw a portrait of your Mother. Winners would receive a prize of store credit. I entered in hopes to surprise my mom with something that sparkled. A week before they awarded the winners my mother received a call from the jewelry store. The man on the phone explained that my drawing was in the running but the drawing was so life like the judges were skeptical that the child received help from an adult. My mom kindly smiled, as I was in the room, and said "the only help she received was me sitting down while she studied my face when sketching the sheet you hold now." The man thanked her and the following week I took my mom to the jewelry store where she picked out a gold neckless that she still wears around her neck today. This was such a boost for me at the time and solidified what I wanted to do and become.
Born and raised in a small town in Idaho, I continued on to college in Southern Utah. I love the great out doors and choose a school in Utah because of the vast number of National parks. I graduated from Southern Utah University in Elementary Education with endorsements in Math & Art. I still continue to love the outdoors and find time for biking, camping, and hiking. I travel to Alaska every year to fish with my dad and this year look forward to an Elk hunt in the mountains of Idaho. I am married with three children; all girls. Due to my husband's profession I have had opportunities to teach all over the midwest. I come to Ranch View with 18 years of middle school teaching experience and excited to show students all the possibilities in art.

Open your eyes to a world unseen. View behind the lens through different perspectives with different artists and techniques. Students will discover & experience a variety of art education, taking their own path with a choice in final projects. Each unit takes students on a road of discovery with each lesson building on the one before, this giving students the opportunity to learn and practice before making decisions on final projects.
Most often I will take late or missing work, BUT ONLY if the student comes and meets with me outside of class time. Students will need to make an appointment where we can go over their work together and put the assignment grade in the grade book.
The "Oh Snap" sheet helps students with behavior choices. The purpose of the sheet is to kindly guide and hellp students be accountable for behavior that is not successful to their learning. An Oh Snap sheet helps redirect the learning to the appropriate behavior and is also a way to communicate a discussion at home.
This is not meant as a "you are in trouble" sheet but only to figure out a way to help the child be successful. It could be as simple as informing parents that the child is not coming to class prepared. Having a parent remind their learner to bring their supplies or check in with their teacher can make all the difference.
Each year the district holds a virtual art show. Students work will be selected by their teachers and then submitted int the show. Last year we had three winners, each bringing home a cash prize of $60.00
