Weekly Updates

I do weekly updates to keep you in the loop of what's going on in our classroom! I will try my best to get them done by Sunday night, but if my kids have a soccer tournament that weekend, it might be a bit tardy. Check back here frequently for lots of pictures & news!

Since we have been communicating on the Facebook page and Remote Learning tab, I will not be updating this Weekly Updates page.

April 5, 2020

Reminders:

  • Thank you so much for supporting your child at home! I could not do this without you!
  • We will be remote learning for the rest of the school year :( I miss seeing the kids every day!!!
  • Monday, April 6th is a teacher planning day. The work on the "At Home Learning Calendar" for Monday is optional.
  • Please continue to send me pictures of your student working and playing at home. Since I will not be able to see them in person, it makes me so happy to see pictures of them and see what they have been working on.

Reminders:

  • Thank you so much for being patient with me this week. Online learning is new for all of us... we are all trying to figure this out together!
  • I know that a lot of you are working from home and trying to help your child(ren) with their work on top of that. Give yourself some grace! This remote learning adventure is not going to be perfect. Do what works for your family!
  • Do not feel like your student has to complete every single thing on the At Home Learning Calendar. It is just a guide. However, we do want to make sure that they are getting a balance of subjects and not spending all of their time on one subject. I would focus on the teacher assigned i-Ready lessons in both reading and math first and complete the other assignments if they have time.
  • Don't forget to take the google survey so that I have an idea of how this first week of remote learning went for your student.
  • Check the Remote Learning tab on my website frequently. I will be adding to it throughout the week.
  • If you are feeling like your child needs more to do throughout the week, check the Resources tab on my website to find supplemental activities for them to do. I will add to this page throughout the week.

Snowball Greeting

First, we write our names on a piece of paper.

We go outside if it's above 20 degrees, so please make sure your child is dressed appropriately.

Thanks for understanding! :)

Letter Sounds

Practicing letter sounds with Barbara Milne video on YouTube!

We have been working SO hard on being mindful and what to do when we are in different zones and our feelings seem out of control! Please click here to practice different mindful strategies with your child at home!! :). To the left is an example of one!

August 25, 2019

We had such a fun week focused all around "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" Our main learning goals were identifying characters and retelling main events (sequencing!). Although almost all of them have read this book before, we loved the activities that we did to accompany the read aloud! We made Brown Bear puppets and retold the story with the characters on our brown paper bags.

We learned all about the Zones of Regulation this week during community circle! We talked about what puts us in each zone and also discussed that sometimes being frustrated or crying can fall into a couple of the zones- Mrs. Lynch can be in the red zone, yellow zone, OR blue zone when frustrated. They are doing SO well with this.

Breathing Buddies!

We used our stuffed animals to help us focus on our breathing.

We learned 3 letters this week: Ll, Ii, and Tt. We're getting good at our motions that we do for our letter sounds too! Here is the song we use!

We celebrated our first birthday in class. Happy birthday Christian!

Thank you to Nash's grandma for reading to us!

Nash's Pepe read us a book too!

Reminders:

  • Make-up Picture Day is September 6th
  • White t-shirt (labeled with your child's name) is due Friday!
  • Please email me if you would like to volunteer to help our class decorate our white shirts for the fun run.

  • Tuesday is NOT a regular school day; please make sure your child is on time for his/her Assessment Day time slot!
  • Please check out clubs/after school programs your child may be interested in!
  • You will not be allowed in the building during soft start since we do not know all the families/parents...after kids are safely in their classrooms, then parents/adults will be allowed in the building. This if for your child’s safety - EVERYONE will need to sign in using our RAPTOR system. You must always wear your sticker\badge when walking around the school.
  • No pickups from 3:30-3:50 for student safety (super busy time of day)

August 16, 2019

Our first full week of kindergarten was a blast! We got to attend all of the different specials, read books, started our Bridges Math curriculum, practiced writing our name and worked on fine motor skills! We start every morning with a community circle where we get to know each other and build our classroom community. Our kindergarten scholars worked together to create a classroom mission and vision and wrote about their hopes and dreams for the future. It was so exciting to watch them draw and write about what they want to be when they grow up!

Meet Gold, our new class pet!

Thank you to Noah and his family for donating Gold's tank from our Amazon Wish List!

Math: Making Observations

This week, we focused on noticing different attributes of our shoes and sorting them into categories. We counted the shoes in each group and determined which group had a greater number of shoes.

Recess Fun!

  • We have been counting all the way to 100 while exercising! You can watch the video here.

August 11, 2019

The first two days of kindergarten were so much fun and I'm loving getting to know each of these little ones! We started Thursday with rotations around MVE to learn about expectations and what we do in each area of the school. It was a TON of information and they were great listeners! Because of that and pictures on Friday, we're just starting to learn our routines and procedures. We've made lots of time for play and brain breaks on GoNoodle because their brains are working SO hard to process all of this new information. I promise you will be absolutely amazed at how much your child will learn this year, but we start the year off slow (building community/family, setting expectations, and praising everything!) so that we can go fast later.

Playground Fun!

Click for your child's picture!

Reminders:

  • Please make sure your child comes with a water bottle every single day!
  • Please make sure your child has a drink in his/her lunch box that is not that water bottle. Because we go straight to recess, our water bottles stay in the classroom so they don't get lost. If your child wants to buy a milk or water from the cafeteria, they may, but please make sure you go to MySchoolBucks (there's a convenient app) to put money on his/her account!
  • Snack donation: If you're at Costco or Walmart over the weekend and are willing and able to donate some extra snacks for us to keep in our classroom, we would be so grateful! Life happens and sometimes we don't always have our 2 snacks!
  • Keep practicing those lunch numbers! When they learn it, they get a free bowling pass from Mrs. Grotts!
  • We have been sharing our "All About Me" bags a few at a time. If your child has not brought their bag home yet, it is because they have not shared yet. We will try to get through all of the bags by the end of the week.
  • Birthday book donation is due on Friday!
  • Monday morning drop off is NORMAL... I will not meet you on the playground. I'll be waiting in the classroom to say good morning to each of my kiddos! Ask your child what color tape they follow to get to our room. (RED)
  • If you do not see your child's First Day of Kindergarten picture, it may be because you checked the Media Restriction box during Express Check-in. If you do not see your child's picture and you would like to see pictures of them on my website, please email me and I will find out what needs to be done to take the restriction off in the system.
