“Beginning in the 2026-2027 school year, our district-operated elementary and middle schools will have a 45-minute late start every Friday. This provides equitable, dedicated time for Professional Learning Communities across the district. This late start has been successfully implemented in district-operated DCSD high schools for the past three years. As of the 2026-2027 school year, all district-operated schools will have a delayed start on Fridays.”
Frequently Asked Questions:
Transportation: All school buses, including special education buses, will start 45 minutes later on Fridays. Bus routes will run exactly 45 minutes later.
Child Care: Elementary students will still have access to Before and After School Education (BASE) on Friday mornings.
School Breakfast: Breakfast will still be offered to students.
Preschool: There will be no impact on preschool schedules. Currently, preschool staff already use Friday mornings for planning and PLCs.
Our first PLC Friday is August 21st. Our bell will ring at 9:15am (soft start) and 9:20am final bell.
