This Year in 4th Grade...
MATH: Students will build a strong foundation in number sense, multiplication and division, fractions, geometry, measurement, and multi-step problem solving while working toward the Colorado Academic Standards. Throughout the year, students will strengthen their mathematical thinking by explaining their reasoning, using multiple strategies, and applying math to real-world situations. Our primary curriculum is i-Ready Math, which provides engaging, standards-aligned lessons and personalized learning opportunities to help every student grow and build confidence as a mathematician.
WRITING: Students will develop their skills in narrative, opinion, and informational writing while meeting the Colorado Academic Standards. Throughout the year, they will learn to plan, organize, draft, revise, and edit their work while strengthening their voice and supporting their ideas with evidence and details. We use the ThinkSRSD (Self-Regulated Strategy Development) Framework, which teaches students effective writing strategies, builds confidence, and helps them become thoughtful, independent writers.
READING: Students will strengthen their comprehension, vocabulary, fluency, and critical thinking skills while meeting the Colorado Academic Standards. Throughout the year, they will read a variety of fiction and nonfiction texts, analyze characters and themes, make inferences, and support their thinking with evidence from the text. Our primary curriculum is Wonders by McGraw Hill, which provides engaging, standards-aligned instruction and helps students develop strong reading habits, deepen their understanding of complex texts, and foster a lifelong love of reading.
SOCIAL STUDIES: Students will discover Colorado's history, geography, economics, and government while meeting the Colorado Academic Standards. Throughout the year, they will learn about the people, events, and cultures that have shaped our state and make connections between the past and present. We use My Colorado Story as our primary resource to bring Colorado's history to life through dynamic lessons, primary sources, and meaningful discussions that encourage students to think critically about our state's story.
SCIENCE: Students will explore life, earth, and physical science while meeting the Colorado Academic Standards. Throughout the year, they will ask questions, investigate scientific phenomena, design and carry out investigations, and use evidence to explain their thinking. We use the Mystery Science curriculum, which engages students through hands-on investigations, interactive lessons, and real-world connections that inspire curiosity and foster a love of scientific discovery.
