Arrival and Dismissal:

The first day of school students will meet us by the front doors.  I will be holding a sign with Harrison on it. Parents are welcome to stay for our flag ceremony starting at 8:30.  Starting the second day of school, students will enter the front door between 8:20-8:30 and walk to our classroom (staff is available to help the kiddos).  Our grade level is dismissed at 3:20, older siblings are dismissed at 3:25.  We will escort students out the front door to meet guardians then walk to the car loop. Students who ride the bus will be escorted by an adult or older student the first few weeks of school.

Specials:

We will cycle through four specials, with PE and Music alternating for two weeks.  Library and Spanish will be additional special classes.  Library will be on Tuesday and Spanish will be on Thursday.  The full schedule will be posted on our classroom blog.  Please keep an eye out for PE days to assure students have correct footwear.  On our first day, our special will be Movement.

Lunch/Snacks:

Our class will eat lunch each day from 10:55-11:35 am. We will be having a snack in the morning and afternoon.  Please send two manageable, healthy snacks each day. It is helpful to keep snacks separate from their lunch box if possible. *** Our class is a nut free classroom!***

Change in Transportation:

If your child’s method of transportation changes, please send a note or email  to let me know.  If something changes and your child is already at school, please call the office before 3:00PM to let them know. I often do not see day-of emails in time for dismissal, so please call the office if there is a change of plan during the day!

Communication:

I strongly believe in open communication between school and home.  Please feel free to contact me when you have questions/concerns, etc.  The best way to reach me is via email. However, if it is pressing, please send a note with your child in the morning or call the office to leave a message as I am not always able to check my email during the school day.  I am generally able to return emails within 24 hours.

Class Website and Weekly Emails:

We have a class website that will be updated frequently throughout the school year.  Please refer to the website to learn more about our class procedures, schedules, and how to provide extra support to your first grader! First Grade also sends out weekly communication. This keeps you up to date with what is happening in our classroom. This is typically sent out on Sunday.

Back to School Night:

Classroom teachers will provide parents with an overview of the school year on Wednesday, August 26, during two Back to School Night  sessions. More information to come!

I am looking forward to a GREAT year at GRE!

Ms. Harrison
