The first part of our year, students have worked on these concepts/skills:

Topic 1: Understanding place value in numbers

Topic 2: Multiple strategies for fluently and efficiently adding and subtracting large numbers:

• Use mental math

• Break numbers apart

• Use a number line

• Compensation

• Use Bar Models to make sense of word problems (part-part-whole understanding)

Topic 3: Use Strategies and Properties to Multiply by 1-Digit Numbers

We will continue work on this topic in October.
