Absences
Regular attendance is imperative to your child's success in school. I do understand, however, that from time to time missing school is unavoidable. If your child needs to be absent from school please notify the front office using the Cougar Run Attendance line (303) 387-6677. You can call this number 24 hours a day and leave a message. The information will be posted on my attendance sheet.
Arrival/Dismissal
School hours are from 8:25 am - 3:30 pm with the tardy bell ringing at 8:40 am. Please do not drop your child off before 8:25 am as there is no supervision outside. Third graders can enter the building at 8:25 am. Please make sure you have set a meeting place with your child for pick up after school. If there is a change in pick up, please notify the main office and they will call our room to let me and your child know.
Behavior
ROCKS - In addition to following the behavior expectations set by Douglas County School District all Cougar Run students are expected to follow our ROCKS behavior. Cougar Run embraces Positive Behavior Support by explicitly teaching, modeling and recognizing students for demonstrating our core values. They are:
R - respect and responsibility
O - power of one
C - compassion
K - kindness
S - safety
We believe in Restorative Practices. If students have a conflict we encourage a time for students to voice their concerns and develop natural consequences for their actions.
Friday Folders
Friday folders will be sent home at the end of each week. They contain important school information as well as student work. Please check your child's folder, empty and return it on Monday. Graded class work will also be sent home on a regular basis. We use a grading system consistent with our report cards:
E - Exceeds expectations (work was above and beyond third grade level)
M - Meets expectations (work is consistent with expectations for a third grader at that point in the year)
A - Approaching (the work is not quite to third grade level)
B - Below expectations ( the work is below grade level)
Not all work is graded, some is just checked for completion and sometimes will have a comment.
Snack/Water Bottles
Snack should be something that’s quick and easy to consume (and hopefully healthy). Because of students allergies we ask students not share snack. Students are also encouraged to bring a water bottle (water only). Everyone is allowed access to his/her water bottle at all times in our classroom.
Birthday Celebrations
If you would like to celebrate a birthday by bringing in a treat please remember they must be store purchased and easy to serve. Please no nuts of any kind.
Chromebooks
All third graders will have a chrome book assigned to them. At the beginning of the school year, students will attend a Tech Academy and learn the rules and expectations for using computers. Students must have a set of headphones. Computers will remain at school.
