ABOUT MRS. HUGHES
Dear Parents,
I am Mrs. Hughes and I am happy to be working with your child this year. I am a moderate needs special education teacher here at Arrowwood Elementary.
I have been a resident of Douglas County since I moved to Colorado in 2011. I am married and we have 2 boys and 5 cats. This is my I have 2 perspectives regarding students - the teacher side and the parent side. My oldest son was in Special Education so I understand many challenges parents face as I have been there myself. Oh goodness, it can be challenging. In addition, this is my 23rd year in education with experience in 4 different states (Louisiana, Georgia, Florida and Colorado), so I bring a lot of best practices from other states to Douglas County.
My mission as a teacher is to provide opportunities for students to grow academically by providing support and resources to help them succeed specifically with their IEP goals but beyond that. I wish for all students to gain confidence in themselves and know that with persistence, they can achieve their own personal goals. I want students to really enjoy being at school. :-)
In Colorado, I am licensed as a special education specialist and special education generalist. I am board certified in my field. I am licensed as a general education teacher (K-6). I have a master's degree in school psychology as well as a master's degree in special education. I am also an instructor for a graduate level ELL course.
Lastly, I am enrolled at CSU this year working towards my principal certificate. I will complete this program in May 2024. I am really excited to take the next step in my education career.
If there is anything I can do for you or your student, please feel free to send me an email at

I am looking forward to a wonderful year!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Hughes
