About Mrs. Frey

My name is Cathy Frey and I am so excited to be returning to 3rd grade at Northridge this year! I grew up in Colorado in the beautiful town of Golden. After high school I attended Colorado State University and earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Interior Design. I had a successful career in the design field for 18 years, but I was not passionate about design. For years I had been kicking myself for not following my passion and getting a teaching degree. After I left my design career I opened a daycare in my home and cared for babies and toddlers for five years. I enjoyed my time with them but still longed to be in the classroom. In 2018, I finally followed my dream and went back to school to get my teaching license and Masters in Elementary Education. I completed my program through the University of Northern Colorado in 14 months and am loving the fulfillment of my lifelong dream to teach!

I believe that every student has the capacity to learn and be successful. However, not every student learns the same or at the same rate. The teaching of concepts is important, but it’s also important to remember that students need to be given different tools to learn those concepts. What works for one child, or even the majority of children, will not work for all. Information must be presented in a variety of ways and students must be given the freedom to use different methods for learning. It’s important to incorporate different learning techniques into instruction to meet the needs of all students. One of my favorite quotes related to education is, "Every child is gifted, they just unwrap their packages at different times."

My husband, Tony, and I have been married for 22 years and have three beautiful children. Our daughter, Libby, is attending the University of Northern Colorado to pursue a degree in Psychology. Our oldest son, Thomas, will be a senior at Mountain Vista, and our youngest son, Joseph, will be a freshman at Mountain Vista. We also have a 2 year old Goldendoodle named Hattie. We love to spend time in the mountains and enjoy exploring our beautiful state on ATV trails.

In my free time I enjoy crafting, watching movies, and spending time with my family.
