Weekly Happenings
We are really beginning to wind down now. Beginning this week we will no longer have spelling or spelling tests, and no more homework for the rest of the year. The students will continue to work on their animal projects and all the different parts that go with it in order to be ready for our museum night coming up on Thursday. We are going to take our chapter 13 math test this week, and then we will be done with math tests after that as well.
Reading: We are not going to have a specific set of words or spelling this week. We are going to get a lot of our reading in through our continued animal research and activities. I still encourage your child to keep reading everyday!
Writing: We are going to continue to work on persuasive writing this week as the kids try to convince us why their animal is worth saving and what we can do to help them.
Math: Chapter 13 is still numbers up to 40, but it is the addition and subtraction of those numbers. We really focus on place value and seeing the numbers in the correct columns, and this week will continue to add and subtract those numbers. The students will be carrying the one and borrowing it from the other columns. We will take our test on Wednesday and then be done with math.
Science/Social Studies: This week we are finishing our animals unit. Thank you all so much for the hard work you have been doing at home with this project. We will have our museum night from 5:30-6:30 on Thursday and then the kids are taking all their projects home.

I grew up in Bountiful, Utah and I moved to Colorado when I was 12. I graduated from Cherry Creek High School, and following graduation I enrolled in Metropolitan State College of Denver, as it was known at the time, for 2 years then transferred to the University of Phoenix and graduated in 2014. I have spent five years at Summit View Elementary in the kindergarten program, and am now on my second year of first grade here at Bear Canyon. I am so excited to take what I have learned from both kindergarten and first grade and improve upon my teaching.
