Biography

I am from Texas. If you have trouble saying my name, don’t worry, you’re not alone. Mr. G. is fine. I grew up in San Antonio (Go Spurs Go). I basically spent my youth playing sports (primarily soccer) and music (guitar and piano). That consumed much of my life up through high school. I was in a band for about ten years called Silver Ceiling. We played all over Texas and California before disbanding to focus on college (lame).

I moved to Colorado in the summer of 2016, and love it. I am now in my 11th year teaching high school English, and my third here at CVHS. I spent my first five years teaching English I, II, and III and coaching Soccer at San Marcos HS and the following 3 years teaching English I and II at MacArthur HS in San Antonio, TX.

I graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio, majoring in English with a focus on Technical and Professional Writing. Before teaching I worked for a newspaper and for an advertising agency as a creative copywriter where I wrote billboards and slogans for the San Antonio Spurs, among others. I made the move to teach, and haven't looked back.

In our free time, my wife, kids, and I enjoy hiking, kayaking, climbing, camping, road-tripping, soccer, and pretty much anything outdoors. Every summer since I began teaching I aim to learn or master something new. These have included kayaking, backpacking, camping, climbing, motorcycle riding, and others. I have been to 14 National Parks, 10 of which I visited on one road-trip with my brother. My goal is to someday visit every U.S. National Park.
