Communication:
I share important information and requests through email mostly. I check email frequently throughout the school day. I also will set up Text Notifications (for those interested) for small reminders and heads up about upcoming informational emails. Please call the front office when your child will be absent from school. If there is a change in transportation for your child, please send me an email, or send a note with your child to school.
Parent Volunteers:
WE LOVE VOLUNTEERS! If you are able and you would like to volunteer in our classroom, please complete the BLUE volunteer form and leave it with me today.
Backpacks and Belonging:
Please make sure your child’s backpack, outerwear, and any other belongings are labeled with your child’s name.
Please also send an extra pair of clothes that stay in your child’s backpack for the whole year for situations like getting wet at recess or bathroom accidents.
Supplies:
Please only label your students' headphones. All other supplies will be community supplies that we use throughout the school year. At any point in the year if you would like to donate extra materials to our class we would greatly appreciate it!
Homework:
This first semester, there will be occasional projects that are aligned with the subjects we are learning at school. These projects are communicated through email ahead of time and need to be complete and brought back to school by the shared due date. Beginning in January, they will have nightly homework consisting of reading, writing, and sight practice. More information will be given when the time comes. However, I do ask that you read to your child nightly. This is a huge indicator of student success.
Snacks and Drinks:
Students should bring two snacks each day, labeled with their name and a water bottle (labeled with their name as well). Please remember that all snacks should be healthy and nut-free.
Birthday Celebrations:
We’d love to help your child celebrate their birthday! If you’d like to send in a favorite treat for your child to share with classmates, that would be fun too! Please try to make sure it’s something healthy: good options are fruit or fruit snacks, graham or animal crackers, popcorn etc. Anything store bought, with a label and prepared is preferable to accommodate for food allergies.
A note regarding birthday invitations: If you would like birthday invitations to be passed out at school, please make sure you have an invitation for every child in the class. If your child is only going to be inviting a few friends from the class, invitations should be passed out outside of school hours (for example, after school at pick up or at play dates).
Sick Children:
Children with a temperature of 99.9 degrees, vomiting, excessive coughing, diarrhea, or green or yellow nose discharge, should not come to school. If they have any of these symptoms, you will be called to pick them up. Children must be symptom free for 24 hours before returning to school.
Confidentiality:
We are not allowed to discuss with parents or anyone, any child but their own. Please respect all the individuals in your child’s classroom. Thank you :-)
Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions! I am looking forward to a fabulous school year! :)
Sincerely,
Miss Sweeney
