Role Plays are the most common ways to compete in DECA. With role plays, you are giving a prompt and ten minutes to prepare a solution to the prompt. After your prep time is over, you will present your solution to a judge 1 on 1 over a ten minute period. After everyone in your event has completed their role play, judges will score each competitor and give them a score. A list of role play events can be found here under Role Plays and Case Studies.
This example role play is from an DECA ICDC winner. The best in the world!
A written event can be done individually or in groups. You will be presented a prompt and have to provide a solution in written format as well as an in-person presentation. Writtens can be 10 to 20 pages depending on the event chosen. A list of written events can found be here under Prepared Events. Writtens are only presented at State and ICDC events. Writtens will be submitted before 1st semester ends and decided by our advisors if the student qualifies to State.
An example of written from our chapter is on the right. It was wonderfully composed and placed at State, qualifying the students for ICDC.
