The Mathematics Department at CVHS believes in a culture that values: risk taking, growth mindset, collaboration and respect. Students learn and demonstrate competency of the Standards of Mathematical Practice through meaningful problems.

“Education is not the learning of facts but the training of the mind to think”- Albert Einstein

Integrated Math 4 will introduce students to problems that require ideas from the many branches of mathematics, including algebra, geometry, graphing, statistics, and trigonometry. This class will help students to develop themselves as mathematicians, by allowing them to discover and communicate the underlying ideas that shape mathematics. Students will continue to explore the following Habits of a Mathematical Learner: Go CATS (Grit, Curiosity, Awareness, Take a Risk, Social Learning)

There are four units we will be exploring this semester:

  • Small World (algebra II) - Rule of 4 (Graph, Equation of exponential functions, Table, Scenario); Curve fitting of exponential functions; Logarithms and natural logarithms; Euler’s number and change of base; Derivatives.
  • Is there Really a Difference? (statistics) - Process for statistical investigations; Null hypothesis; Chi-squared x2 statistic; Calculation and interpretation of data.
  • High Dive (trigonometry and algebra II) - Rule of 4 (Graph, Equation of trigonometric functions, Table, Scenario); Unit circle; Inverse trigonometry; Trigonometric identities (reciprocal. Pythagorean, quotient, cofunction); Polar coordinates; Physics of free-fall.
  • High Dive Returns (trigonometry and algebra II) - Tangent lines; Horizontal and vertical vector components; Quadratic equation

All units will require the use of a Graphing Calculator: TI-84 is highly recommended.

Grading Criteria

  • In-class/Projects (20%)
  • Habits of a Mathematical Learner (10%)
  • Homework (15%)
  • Exit Tickets (20%)

Attendance/Tardy Policy

Students with excused absences are responsible for contacting me upon return to school in order to collect work missed during their absence. Students are strongly encouraged to use my website and email to obtain assignments while absent.

1st tardy – conference with student

2nd tardy – conference with student, warn student of lunch detention if late for 3rd time, and notify parent

3rd and subsequent tardies - student may be assigned a lunch detention, notify dean, and notify parent

Late work Policy

Late work for a unit will not be accepted once a unit exam has been given. It is the student's responsibility to make sure he or she makes up all work due to an absence. In the event a student must miss an exam with an excused absence, that student will have one week from the day he or she returns to make up the exam. If a student misses an exam due to an unexcused absence, the exam must be made up immediately upon return to class. See the student handbook on the CVHS website for the school's policy on turning in work after absences and missed finals.
