Meet Your Teacher

Hi! My name is Veta Kapernekas. I am a Denver native, and I love the mountains, the Broncos, and all things Colorado! This is my 10th year teaching Discovery classes at Northridge Elementary and my 15th year teaching. I have two sons. Danny is 17 and will be attending the IDA Soccer academy in Valencia Spain for the school year. Jason who is 20 will be a junior at CSU, where he is studying anthropology. I also have an adorable Golden Retriever named Estes. Watching my boys play sports, reading, gardening and eating chocolate are things I love to do. Teaching has always been a passion of mine. When I was very young I said I wanted to be a mom, a teacher, and an anthropologist. So far I've accomplished two out of three, and who knows what the future holds? I have a passion for life long learning and I hope to pass my love of learning to others.

Estes catching up on some work.

My sons hanging out. Oh teenagers.

It's going to be a great school year! I can't wait to meet you.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe in creating a nurturing classroom environment where the diverse and unique needs of my students are addressed, celebrated, and respected. Fostering the development of an intrinsic passion for life long learning through mutual respect and understanding, becomes a theme and focus in our classroom, as my students experience the challenges of learning at their individual level and pace.
