AFTER PROM FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

After Prom is a fun party held at the school immediately following Prom. Students will enjoy inflatables, games, race cars, laser tag, putt-putt, henna tattoos, tons of food, drinks, music, entertainment, mega prize drawings, senior hall, and much more. The goal of the After Prom committee is to provide a fun, safe, and entertaining event after the Prom that does not involve alcohol or hotel rooms.

After Prom:  Who, where, when and why?

Friday, April 19, 2024. After the Prom ends, students can head to the After Prom beginning at 11:00 pm and ending at 2:00 am at the high school. After Prom costs $10 per student and the cost is subsidized through fundraising and the generous donations of parents and businesses. The event is held at the school and filled with inflatables, activities, entertainment, food, and prizes. Only HRHS seniors and juniors (and their guests) may attend After Prom, but they do not have to attend the Prom to be welcomed at After Prom. We provide a safe, alcohol-free event for the students, which helps them avoid the temptation and consequences of underage drinking at this high-risk time.

When does After Prom start and end?

After Prom begins at 11:00 pm as soon as Prom is over. Everyone must be checked in by 12:30 am. The event runs from 11:00 pm to 2:00 am. Every student must have a parent signed waiver on file to attend After Prom.

What happens if my child does not arrive by 12:30 am?

After Prom starts at 11:00 am, but we will allow students to enter up until 12:30 am. After 12:30 am the doors are locked. The more time between the end of Prom and the start of After Prom, the more time for students to make poor choices, so we lock the doors by 12:30 am.

Do you have to attend Prom to go to After Prom?

No. Even if they don’t attend Prom, seniors and juniors (and their guests) are welcome to come to After Prom for a more casual, fun night of games, inflatables, food, prizes, and much more. Students (and guests) just need to purchase a $10 After Prom ticket and have a signed waiver on file.

Where do you buy tickets and get a waiver for After Prom?

Tickets will go on sale approximately 10 days before the event. Tickets and waivers are available on MySchoolbucks (check back for link). Remember, every student MUST have a signed waiver on file to attend After Prom.

Note:  Prom tickets are sold separately from After Prom tickets.

Can you bring a guest to After Prom?

Only seniors and juniors can attend After Prom (and Prom), but they are allowed to bring 1 guest each. The guest could be an underclassman or someone from another school. Every guest at After Prom must have a parent signed waiver on file.

Note:  Prom and After Prom require SEPARATE guest waivers. The Prom guest waiver must be signed by the administrator of the guest’s high school. Make sure to get the form early so you have time to get it signed!

What should kids wear/bring to After Prom?

After Prom is a fun night of inflatables, games, race cars, laser tag, putt putt, henna tattoos, food, etc. It is NOT a formal event! Most kids wear shorts or sweats and t-shirts-or something comfortable to run around in. You don’t need to bring anything in-we provide food and drinks for the evening. In order to maintain a safe environment, we don’t allow backpacks or bags to be brought in. If your child needs something from their car, we will provide an escort to take her there and back.

How do kids get from Prom to After Prom?

Most kids use HRHS as their “home base” for Prom and After Prom. Most students leave their cars at HRHS and meet their carpool/bus/limo at the school. Following Prom, they meet back at the school for After Prom. After Prom is very casual, so some kids go to a designated house to change clothes first, while others just change on the way. There is no place to change or store Prom clothes at the school. Once students arrive at After Prom, they are not allowed to go outside the building to their cars unless escorted by a parent volunteer. Kids who don’t attend Prom just come straight to After Prom at 11:00 pm.

If the kids get tired, do they have to stay until 2:00 am?

No. Although the goal of After Prom is to keep kids in a safe, supervised environment after the Prom until 2:00 am, we recognize that it’s a long night for everyone and kids are exhausted. We require that every student have a parent signed waiver on file to attend. This assures you as parents that your child is in a safe location for the night. If he does want to leave, we will allow it, but they are not allowed back in. Keep in mind that many valuable prizes are given out at the end of the night and you must be present to win!

What if my son/daughter needs to take a date home early or pick up a friend, can he or she return to After Prom?

No. Once a student leaves the After Prom  he or she may not return.

My son/daughter wants to host a separate party. What do I do?

Prom night is a “big deal” to most kids, and they often feel like they’re missing out on something. However, most kids come back the next week and say After Prom was more fun than Prom. Don’t let them miss out on a fun night of memories! There are 51 other weekends of the year. Or, consider hosting an “After After Prom” breakfast. The kids can go to your house once After Prom is over, eat, talk, and sleep the rest of Saturday away!

My son/daughter does not want me to be at After Prom, but I want to volunteer!

Explain to your child that After Prom depends on the volunteer efforts of HRHS parents, and with so much to do there, After Prom requires many volunteers. There are so many people that your son/daughter may only catch a glimpse of you, if at all. Still a problem? Why not volunteer to help decorate or clean up? Please contact Angie Yearous (akyearous@dcsdk12.org) and we will find a way for you to help!

My child is not a junior or senior, can I still help?

Of course! All parents can help, both before the event (planning, fundraising, decorating) or at the event itself. In fact, sometimes your older student doesn't want you there, so it’s nice to be able to help out when they are underclassmen and then you know what to expect when it’s their turn (and you don’t feel guilty about not helping out then!). Our committee is a lot of fun, so come join us!

Does the school sponsor this event?

After Prom is run and funded completely by parent volunteers. Everything about After Prom is done by parents, but HRHS administration completely supports the After Prom committee’s goal of keeping kids safe on Prom night. Plus they allow us to host the event at the school. We need all the help we can get, so please consider volunteering!

Why do students have to pay $10 for After Prom tickets when I already donated?

After Prom is expensive! We are basically hosting a party for hundreds of kids, providing entertainment, food, and prizes. It’s very expensive so we appreciate ALL donations-we couldn’t do it without them! The $10 is necessary to offset the cost, but it’s also a way for us to estimate how many kids are coming and hold kids accountable.

How can I help?

Every year, students graduate and their parents move on-so After Prom is always looking for parents willing to jump in and help out! No special skills or experience necessary. We have lots of opportunities and will take any amount of help you can give us. Some positions that are available this year include:

Anyone willing and able to spend a few hours planning, organizing, and decorating is PERFECT for After Prom-your contribution is valuable in any size, shape, or form! Contact Angie Yearous for more information (akyearous@dcsdk12.org).
