READING

Shared Reading

You might hear me talk about shared reading. But what is it? In it's most basic form, it is a way to increase engagement while reading a text with a student. Click THIS LINK to find out more.

Making Words

Making words is the phonics portion of our alternate curriculum. Making words is based on the research by Dr. Patricia M. Cunningham and is divided into sections of 10 lessons. Each lesson is hands on and has students manipulating letter tiles to review sounds, build words and compare words.

Learning Letters

Learning Letters is the phonics program your child would follow if they do not yet demonstrate mastery of letter names or sounds. Learning Letters follows a letter of the day (instead of traditional classrooms that do letters of the week) in order to increase exposure to letters. After the full alphabet is reviewed, we start over, but follow a different order of the letters (called a cycle).

For Grades K-2 we use a curriculum called ReadtopiaGo. Please visit the ReadtopiaGo website for more information.

For Grades 3-6 we use a curriculum called Readtopia. Please visit the Readtopia website for more information.
